There are a lot of statistics tracking the percentage of many corporate women in their qualifications, salaries, and workforce.
However, these statistics don’t show the whole picture, including the real challenges they face. Technically, some of the issues and challenges working women face include:
1. Grooming Gap
This is also referred to as beauty expectation. This encapsulates social norms imposed on most women concerning their appearance and growth, plus the time and financial constrictions it imposes.
In many professional settings, for every businesswoman to be part of the corporate world, they are anticipated to abide by beauty standards, like dressing in fashion formals for women, which may entail well-manicured nails and wearing heels and makeup.
2. Lack of Sponsorship
Women who had reduced working hours or stepped out of the workforce because of the global pandemic, Covid-19, might have challenges getting back on their feet.
Having sponsor-senior leaders who use their influence to advocate for people’s advancement will make a great difference, particularly for every woman of color who lacks access to networking relationships.
As many women opt to work remotely, getting sponsors to ascertain that women are overlooked for development opportunities will be imperative.
3. Domestic Restrictions
Before, women used to be restricted to their homes, and their main role was to do household chores and take care of the entire family. But because of increased economic pressures, these restrictions have been released.
Now in many families, women are allowed to acquire high education and get paid, though under some restrictions. Most women are seen as clerks, health workers, educationists, or other job opportunities, which most men do not prefer.
Plus, some women are allowed to do such work due to the dominant female environment. This, in turn, has limited woman’s exposure to other opportunities and, at the same, restricted their growth when it comes to the developmental sector. After having a busy or hectic day at work, they are forced to handle domestic chores regardless of how tired they are.
4. Equal Pay
In general, women continue earning less compared to men. Most women are employed at a lower pay rate in some of the entry-level procession, and this wage gap continues to widen as they even progress their careers.
A female employer may request a pay increase to update their office wear for women but risk being labeled a burden by the management.
These days, some companies have come up with new rules and policies to provide a secure and safe work atmosphere for female workers.
So it is high that these challenges and issues are addressed by changing men’s attitudes and making them understand that women employees are also efficient and can perform even better than their male counterparts.
